Traditional pink rock salt, hand-mined and unrefined, with its trace minerals left intact rather than stripped out. The pink comes from trace iron oxide in the rock itself. Worth being level-headed about what this does and does not offer: pink salt does contain trace minerals absent from refined table salt, but in quantities far too small to function as a mineral source, and anyone buying it for that reason is buying a story. The genuine difference is the absence of processing. Refined table salt is stripped to almost pure sodium chloride and then dosed with anti-caking agents — sodium ferrocyanide is the common one — to keep it free-flowing. This has none of that, which is why it clumps in humid weather. One practical point that matters more than the mineral question: rock salt is naturally non-iodised. Iodine deficiency remains a real public-health issue in parts of India, so anyone using this as their only salt should get iodine elsewhere.
