Hand-extracted mineral rock salt from the Himalayan foothills, sold as a single-ingredient alternative to refined table salt with no anti-caking agent added. The pink colour comes from trace iron oxide in the rock. Worth being level-headed about the claims that usually surround this product: pink salt does contain trace minerals that refined white salt does not, but the quantities are small enough that it should not be bought as a mineral supplement. What it genuinely offers is the absence of processing — refined table salt is stripped to almost pure sodium chloride and then dosed with anti-caking agents like sodium ferrocyanide to keep it free-flowing. This has neither. One practical point that matters more than the mineral question: rock salt is naturally non-iodised. Iodine deficiency remains a real public-health issue in parts of India, and anyone relying on this as their only salt should make sure iodine comes from elsewhere in the diet. Single ingredient, no processing aids.
