Vetiver root in a coconut oil and forest beeswax bar; no palm oil.

Reviewed by PurePicked

A handmade beeswax soap on a base of coconut oil and wild forest beeswax, built around vetiver root — khus — with lemongrass and neroli essential oils. Handmade in small batches by women in Karikkadav Village, Kerala.

Vetiver is the reason to buy this one. It is a deep, earthy, cooling root note traditionally associated with relief from heat across India, and it lasts far longer on skin than lighter florals; the lemongrass and neroli are there to stop it reading too dark. Vetiver root powder worked through the bar gives a light physical texture. The base is declared, which is unusual for handmade soap — coconut oil is named on the pack, and the beeswax is a by-product of the collectives' own honey harvest. No sulphates, phthalates, parabens or palm oil.

Why We Like It

  • Handmade in small batches.
  • The undisclosed saponification base is the one thing keeping this from a clean verdict.

What to look for in Natural Soap?
01

Prefer true saponified soap over synthetic-detergent (syndet) bars.

02

Check it's palm-oil-free (or certified sustainable palm).

03

Look for essential oils, not 'fragrance/parfum'.

04

Avoid SLS/SLES, parabens and phthalates.

05

Natural exfoliants (grains, petals) over plastic microbeads.
