Short waterless plant-oil + kokum-butter balm, essential-oil scented, no synthetic emulsifiers/preservatives.

Reviewed by PurePicked

A waterless balm for very dry, rough or mature skin, built on olive oil, castor oil, hemp seed oil and kokum butter. Rich yet gentle, it softens rough patches and sinks in slowly, while crisp cedarwood and lemon essential oils bring a fresh, outdoorsy scent. Handmade in small batches by women in Karikkadav Village, Kerala.

Because it is an oil-and-butter balm with no added water, it needs no synthetic emulsifiers or preservatives — just a handful of plant ingredients for a simple daily moisturiser.

Why We Like It

  • A short, waterless formula — olive, castor and hemp oils with kokum butter — so it needs no emulsifiers or preservatives.
  • Every bit of the scent comes from named essential oils, cedarwood and lemon, rather than a 'fragrance' blend.
  • Palm-oil-free, and handmade in small batches by women in Karikkadav Village, Kerala.
  • Kokum butter instead of the cheaper petrolatum most rich body creams are built on.

What to look for in a Body Balm?
01

A short ingredient list is the point. A waterless balm needs no synthetic emulsifiers or preservatives; anything containing water usually does.

02

'Fragrance' or 'parfum' covers a blend the maker never has to break down. Named essential oils tell you what is actually in the jar.

03

Essential oils are potent. A balm should already have them diluted into a carrier; never apply an essential oil neat.

04

Petroleum jelly and paraffin are the cheap balm bases. Plant butters cost more and do the same job without the petrochemical.

05

Check for palm oil, and for whether it is certified sustainable if it is there.
