Salem Haldi (Ground Turmeric), Single-Origin

Single-origin turmeric from Salem in Tamil Nadu, ground and packed with nothing else added. Salem turmeric is a recognised regional variety prized for naturally deep colour and strong aroma, and single-origin sourcing matters more here than it would for most spices — ground turmeric is one of the most adulterated products in the Indian market, and knowing where a batch came from is part of the defence. The adulteration in question is not trivial. Lead chromate is used to brighten dull turmeric into a vivid yellow, and metanil yellow and Sudan dyes appear in market samples regularly enough that FSSAI treats it as a standing enforcement priority and caps lead at 10 mg/kg. A single-ingredient label from a farm that grows its own crop is a meaningfully different proposition from commodity powder. Gluten-free, good for a year from packing. Pair with black pepper and fat when cooking — piperine substantially improves curcumin absorption and curcumin needs fat to dissolve.
