Turmeric harvested by indigenous farmers of the Nilgiris and processed by women working in Aadhimalai's own production units, ground without added starch, colour or anti-caking agent. The brand describes it as high in curcumin; treat that as marketing copy rather than a specification, because no lab-verified curcumin percentage has been published for this SKU. Turmeric deserves more scrutiny than most spices, and not because of anything specific to this producer. Ground turmeric is one of the most consistently adulterated products in the Indian retail market — lead chromate is used to brighten dull powder to a vivid yellow, and metanil yellow and Sudan dyes turn up in market samples with uncomfortable regularity. FSSAI caps lead at 10 mg/kg for this reason. We have not seen a lead-content lab result for this product, and that is the single test worth asking Aadhimalai for. Pair with black pepper when cooking; piperine substantially improves curcumin absorption.
